Certificate in Deaf blindness and Multi-Sensory Impairment.


General Objective

The overall objective of the programme is to equip the students with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes relevant for working with and supporting persons with Deafblindness and multi-sensory impairments. The programme aims at equipping students with knowledge and skills in order to;

  • Enabling the work with and for persons with for persons with Deafblindness and multisensory impairments and for purposes of, social inclusion, participation, empowerment and equalisation opportunities.
  •  Promote a human rights based approach to service delivery and enhance interaction and communication between persons with Deafblindness, parents and caregivers.
  • Lobby and advocate for equity and contribute to the mainstreaming of Deafblindness concerns in development programmes at all levels of society.

 

4.2.      Specific Objectives

By the end of the programme, students should be able to:

(i)     Explain the concept of deafblindness and multisensory impairments

(ii)  Articulate the needs and rights of persons with deafblindness and their families;

(iii)             Apply international and national laws and policies pertaining to disability in supporting

persons with deaf-blindness and multisensory impairments. 

(iv)  Raise awareness about the rights, service provisions, participation and empowerment  of

persons with deaf-blindness and multisensory impairments

(v)   Mobilise and train persons with deafblindness and multisensory impairments and other

stakeholders in communication and social interaction.
